Hang® Godo

The Hang® Godo is a hand played percussion instrument. It does not only represent a percussive challenge, but also requires players with ears for melodic bass pulses. The pulses of the Helmholtz resonance are surprisingly strong and can be used in a variety of muscial styles. This shrewd instrument originated in the context of the Hang® Balu ensemble. It intervenes decisively in the groove and plays this way an important role in the Balu band.

The Hang® Godo is entirely made from Pang® composite. The frequency of the air resonance is 139 Hertz (Db3). The Ding is tuned to fundamental, octave and twelfth (the fifth above the octave).

We offer the instrument in two different tunings: The Hang® Godo with F3-Ding is intended for the use in the Hang® Balu ensemble. With an Eb3-Ding it is suitable for playing with our instruments tuned to Eb, like Hang® Bal or Hang® Gubal.

The dominant hand is operating the Ding side, a prestressed shell providing various percussive sounds and a tone field. The dome of the Ding is used to excite the bass pulse of the Helmholtz resonance.

Simultaneously the other hand is altering the conditions of the Helmholtz resonator by dipping into the opening and changing its size. With clear hand positions any bass tones between Db3 and Eb2 are possible. It produces a swinging sound, not unlike the bongos.

The Hang® Godo has a height of 18.5 cm, a diameter of 38 cm and weighs 2.22 kg. It comes well-protected by a natural fiber case with a shoulder strap (produced by Winter GmbH, Nauheim DE).
