An outwardly unassuming sound sculpture, whose treasures lie within.

The high quality of Pang®, a composite material developed by PANArt, gives the instrument very good tuning stability as well as protection against corrosion. Its low damping and the high speed of bending waves propagating in the whole shell strengthen the intensity of the tone impulse.

PANArt's art of tuning is apparent in the harmonic interplay of the prestressed and tuned vessel with the air resonance in its cavity. The frequency of the air resonance is 78 Hertz (Eb2). This pitch can be lowered by up to one octave by hand. The circular area around the opening of the vessel is called the ringding and tuned to Eb3, Bb3, Eb4 and G5. It serves a double function: a sound source as well as a place to excite the air which produces the strong pulse-like bass.

The Hang® Urgu has a height of 31.5 cm, a diameter of 52 cm and weighs 4.3 kg. It comes well-protected by a natural fiber case and a backpack (made in Germany).

In order to perceive the deep sounds produced by the air resonance in the Hang® Urgu's cavity, we recommend that you listen to the videos only with good speakers or headphones.

Purchasing the Hang® Urgu

At the moment the Hang Urgu is no longer being produced. You can find a newer form of it here: Hang® Balu Urgu.
